Carroll’s Coaching Debut: A Winning Start for Dagenham & Redbridge Under New Ownership
The managerial landscape at Dagenham & Redbridge has seen a dramatic shift, with former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll stepping into the dugout. In a surprising turn of events, Carroll’s initial foray into management has been met with immediate success, marking a positive start to his coaching career. His second match in charge saw the Daggers secure a victory against Hampton & Richmond Borough, extending a promising run for the club.
The appointment of the 37-year-old as caretaker manager came swiftly last Wednesday, following a decision by the club’s new minority owner, KSI. This move occurred despite the team’s recent win against Farnborough, a result that had placed them in a respectable 12th position in the National League South and unfortunately marked the final game for former boss Lee Bradbury.
Carroll’s tenure kicked off with an emphatic 1-0 triumph over play-off contenders Torquay United last Saturday. The victory was reportedly watched with keen interest by KSI himself, who was seen to be enjoying the proceedings.

This past Saturday, the social media magnate was once again in attendance, witnessing his side secure a convincing 3-1 win. This marked their third consecutive victory, bolstering their charge towards the play-off positions.
The former Premier League star, Andy Carroll, appears to be embracing his new role with evident passion. He was observed celebrating enthusiastically as Stan Leech netted a first-half hat-trick for the Essex-based outfit.

During the match, Carroll maintained a composed demeanour on the sidelines, clad in all black, until his team found the back of the net. In contrast, KSI, sporting a club shirt, was more outwardly expressive, celebrating jubilantly on the pitch at the final whistle.
Carroll, who joined Dagenham as a player last summer, is currently sidelined with an injury. He also holds a minority stake in the club and was present alongside KSI at the earlier match that initiated the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s tenure. He had joined Dagenham after his spell at Bordeaux and had scored six goals in twelve appearances before sustaining his injury in December.
It is noteworthy that Carroll’s appointment as caretaker manager comes while he is scheduled to stand trial in January. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of breaching a non-molestation order, stemming from accusations of repeatedly contacting his ex-wife, Billi Mucklow, with whom he shares three children. A non-molestation order, issued by a civil court, is designed to prevent contact with another individual. A breach of such an order can carry a maximum prison sentence of five years.
KSI’s Vision for Dagenham & Redbridge
The acquisition of a stake in Dagenham & Redbridge by KSI, whose real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams ‘JJ’ Olatunji, generated considerable buzz earlier this month. The 32-year-old YouTube sensation was met with a rapturous reception from the fans upon his arrival at his first game, which saw the Daggers secure a 1-0 victory over Dorking Wanderers.

KSI even live-streamed his experience at the game, with a camera crew documenting his and Carroll’s movements in the stands. Saturday’s match was also available via live stream.
Following his investment, KSI articulated his ambitions for the club, expressing his excitement and determination.
“It’s surreal, bro, out of this world. The idea of it excites me so much. Years ago, I saw the excitement, the happiness, the joy. I want to bring that back and then surpass it. I want the place to be pumping, I want it to be rocking, I want it to be an event whenever you come here. Playing a video game and owning a football club is very different, I know that, but with Race to Division One (his Fifa YouTube series), it was a journey. It was hard, but in the end, I did it.”
He further elaborated on his long-term goals for Dagenham & Redbridge:
“With this club, I want to do the unthinkable. I want to take Dagenham and Redbridge to the Premier League. It’s obviously going to take time, but I’d say the realistic goal is getting out of this league and entering the National League. We need to improve the team, make some additions that really take it to another level, and I want to build the community.”
The club is now looking forward to a new era under this dynamic partnership, with the immediate focus on consolidating their position and pushing for promotion under the guidance of caretaker manager Andy Carroll and the ambitious vision of owner KSI.
