Chelsea and Tottenham are both showing interest in Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, with the Portuguese club open to selling him in 2026. The 21-year-old joined Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 and has been performing exceptionally well ever since. In his first season with the club, he scored 27 goals across all competitions, and he has continued to impress this campaign with nine goals already.
The Spain international, who has earned three caps for his country, came close to joining Chelsea last year. Financial terms were agreed upon, but an ankle injury caused him to fail a medical. Instead, he moved to Porto, but interest from both Chelsea and Tottenham remains strong.
According to Portuguese publication Correio de Manha, both clubs are considering a move for Aghehowa next year, and Porto is not ruling out a sale. The striker has a release clause in his contract worth €100 million (£88m), but the report suggests that Porto could be willing to accept an offer of €80 million (£70m).

Porto’s financial situation may also influence their decision, as they could even sanction a sale in January, cashing in on their star forward during the middle of the season. However, whether Chelsea or Tottenham would be willing to spend such a large sum in the winter transfer window remains to be seen.
Chelsea has made several signings this summer, including forwards Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, as well as attacking players like Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jamie Gittens. Meanwhile, Tottenham has also strengthened its attack with new signings such as Mathys Tel, Randal Kolo Muani, and Mohammed Kudus.

Despite these additions, Tottenham’s performance has been lackluster, with the team struggling to score goals. The club could be looking to bring in another striker at the earliest opportunity.
In a recent match, Chelsea defeated Tottenham 1-0 in north London, with the home side delivering a poor performance that led to loud boos from their own fans. Tottenham managed just three shots, and their xG for the game was 0.05, the lowest ever recorded in a Premier League game.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank expressed his frustration after the game, stating, “I would say that, of course, hurt massively. I’ve never been in charge of a team that created that little in one game, never. So that, of course, I will look into what we can do to make it better. But I think that’s one thing. I think everything is a little bit linked. And today we didn’t hit the level.”
