A New Chapter for The Celebrity Traitors

A second series of The Celebrity Traitors is already looking like a strong possibility, with one of the most beloved comedy actresses potentially joining the cast. Known for her iconic role as Nessa in Gavin and Stacey, Ruth Jones has become a national treasure over the past two decades. Her journey began with a black bob wig and fishnets, and since then, she has written hit shows, appeared in various TV programs, and even reprised her Nessa character in skits.

Now, it seems that Ruth might be set to make another on-screen appearance, this time in the Scottish Highlands alongside other stars in the Celeb Traitors castle. While the BBC hasn’t officially confirmed a second season of Claudia Winkleman’s hit game show, the success of the first series suggests that a follow-up is highly likely. In addition, the civilian edition is also expected to return for more runs.

According to reports from The Sun, the BBC is already reaching out to celebrities for potential appearances, and Ruth Jones is one of the names being considered. A source told the publication: “The celebrity version of The Traitors has been a phenomenal success for the BBC, and they’re already approaching stars for the next run. Ruth is one of the names in the frame, and she’s been approached about taking part.”

The insider added that Ruth would be an incredible addition to the cast if she can fit it into her schedule. However, there’s one condition that Ruth has set before agreeing to participate. She would only consider joining the show if she were a Faithful. This decision highlights her commitment to the game’s rules and her desire to play fair.

Ruth Jones’ Busy Schedule

Despite the potential opportunity, Ruth has plenty on her plate at the moment. Recently, it was revealed that she and James Corden have signed a big-money deal with AppleTV. Together, they will create an eight-part comedy series titled The Choir, which follows a brother and sister who reconnect after being estranged.

Given their previous success with Gavin and Stacey, it’s no surprise that there’s already excitement around the project. The duo has a proven track record of creating content that resonates with audiences through its unique humor and storytelling.

On Christmas Day, nearly 20 million people tuned in for the final-ever episode of Gavin and Stacey, which gave fans the long-awaited ending as Nessa and Smithy tied the knot. Meanwhile, James Corden, despite stepping down from hosting duties on The Late Late Show and returning to the UK, has not stayed away from the US. He has been performing on Broadway in the revival of the Tony-winning play ART, alongside Bobby Cannavale and Neil Patrick Harris.

The Cast of Series One

The first series of The Celebrity Traitors featured an impressive lineup of celebrities, including Sir Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Olympic athlete Tom Daley, broadcaster Kate Garraway, pop star Paloma Faith, rugby player Joe Mahler, and Welsh singer Charlotte Church. All of these stars were chosen to be Faithfuls, while Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, and Cat Burns were the three Traitors who received the shoulder tap from Claudia Winkleman.

Throughout the series, the players engaged in a high-stakes game where trust and betrayal played key roles. Despite playing well for much of the season, Alan and Cat eventually turned on Jonathan in the final week due to suspicions about his reliability. It remains to be seen whether the remaining Traitors will manage to make it all the way to the end and steal the cash, as their fellow players are already starting to suspect something is off.

What’s Next?

The final of The Celebrity Traitors will air on Thursday, November 6, at 9pm on BBC One. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next season, with many wondering who else might join the cast. After Bob Mortimer’s absence in the first series, fans are hoping he might return in the next one.

With the calibre of the first season’s cast, it’s clear that the BBC is aiming for an equally impressive lineup for the second season. As the show continues to gain popularity, it’s only a matter of time before more names are announced.
