Kevin the Carrot Makes a Romantic Return in Aldi’s Hottest Christmas Ad

A Romantic Twist in Aldi’s Christmas Advert

In a heartwarming and romantic twist, Kevin is set to propose to his beloved sweetheart, Katie. This year’s festive campaign by Aldi promises to be one of the most memorable yet, as the supermarket unveils its first of three Christmas adverts for 2025.

The advert features Kevin the Carrot, the supermarket’s beloved Christmas character, who is making a return for his 10th anniversary. The commercial opens with a touching snowy scene outside Katie’s cozy home, where their adorable pet, Caulidog, is waiting excitedly. The scene is a nod to the iconic cue-card moment from the 2003 film Love Actually, where Keira Knightley’s character Juliet is surprised by Andrew Lincoln’s character Mark with a series of heartfelt messages.

Kevin delivers the same level of sparkle and sentiment as he proposes to Katie, using a series of cue cards that spell out the words every carrot dreams of hearing: “To me you are 24 carat. Marry Christmas?” With a diamond ring glinting from Caulidog’s collar, the moment is both whimsical and deeply romantic.

Viewers will have to wait to find out if Katie says yes, as Aldi has confirmed that two more episodic adverts will follow throughout the festive period. Each of these commercials will promise plenty of surprises and, of course, Katie’s answer to the big question.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, shared her excitement about the campaign, saying:

“We know how much our customers adore Kevin, and this year, to mark his 10th anniversary, we wanted to bring an extra sprinkle of magic and romance to his story. This teaser sets the stage for a truly heartwarming Christmas, reminding us all that love is at the heart of the festive season. We can’t wait for everyone to join Kevin and Katie on their journey and see what other surprises we have in store.”

A Festive Journey Full of Surprises

Last year’s Aldi advert opened in a festive snowy village on Christmas Eve, but something unexpected was happening. A black and white van screeched into view, and a series of humbug characters appeared to capture the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ before zooming off, leaving the once glowing village in darkness.

Santa had Kevin the Carrot on speed dial and gave him an incredible assignment: break into the Humbug Headquarters and outsmart Dr. Humbug and her minions to retrieve the ‘Spirit of Christmas’. Using cunning disguises and a case with a ‘false bottom’, Kevin and Katie carefully avoided dangerous situations and ‘booby traps’ to save the day.

The advert culminated with the humbugs learning that “Christmas is better when goodwill is returned.” A sweet festive poem narrated throughout the commercial read:

“In the darkest and coldest of Christmas Eve the festive Spirit had been stolen by thieves, the very last thing that Kevin expected, an impossible mission would he choose to accept it? At humbug headquarters in cunning disguise it was a race to the vault for our vegetable spies. The Peril and danger they face while inside can never be told it’s classified. Our agents look doomed would they fail or succeed, then all of a sudden the spirit was freed. Even the humbugs seem to have learned that Christmas is better when Goodwill is returned.”

This year’s campaign continues to build on the magic and charm that has made Kevin the Carrot a fan favorite. With a mix of romance, humor, and heartwarming moments, Aldi’s Christmas adverts are set to become a cherished part of the holiday season for many.
