President Jokowi Receives Letters of Credence from Four New Ambassadors

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received Letters of Credence from four new Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of friendly countries, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (01/09), marking the official start of their ambassadorial duties in Indonesia.

The credentials submission was started with a welcoming ceremony for the Ambassadors at the front yard of the Palace. On this welcoming ceremony, national anthem of each country was played.

The Ambassadors then submitted their credentials to the President sequentially at the credential chamber. Afterward, Indonesia’s national anthem Indonesia Raya was played.

The four new Ambassadors are as follows:

  1. Santiago Javier Chávez Pareja, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ecuador to the Republic of Indonesia;
  2. Nikki Penelope Williams PSM, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to the Republic of Indonesia;
  3. Pádraig Francis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ireland to the Republic of Indonesia;
  4. Houssein Sidi Abdellah DEH, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to the Republic of Indonesia.

The credentials submission was held by adhering to strict health protocols such as maintaining safe distance, wearing face mask, and avoiding physical contact.

Accompanying President Jokowi in that event were Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.  (DND/UN) (RAS/MMB)
