Phu Quoc, a stunning island that was recently ranked as the second most beautiful in Asia by readers of the American magazine Condé Nast Traveler, has seen a remarkable surge in international visitors. Between January and September this year, the island welcomed 1.2 million foreign tourists, marking a 65.8% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth has already exceeded the target set for the year.

In 2022, Phu Quoc received 960,000 foreign tourists, with the goal of reaching 1 million in 2023. So far, the island has attracted 6.5 million visitors in total, including domestic travelers, which is more than the 5.9 million recorded in 2022. These figures highlight the growing appeal of Phu Quoc as a tourist destination.

Andy Nguyen, the director of Sunset Beach Resort & Spa Phu Quoc, shared insights on the current situation. He noted that international guests now make up approximately 90% of the visitors in recent months, leading to a 30% increase in revenue year-on-year. This trend has allowed the resort to maintain stable occupancy rates and boost service revenue. Additionally, it has created new opportunities to promote the island and invest in more entertainment and cultural activities, enhancing both the quality and attractiveness of the visitor experience.

The peak travel season on Phu Quoc typically runs from October to May, when the weather is sunny and the sea is clear. This period is highly anticipated by both tourists and local businesses.

Looking ahead, the tourism outlook for Phu Quoc appears promising. The island is preparing for the launch of its first flight by Phu Quoc Airways, a carrier owned by Sun Group, the operator of resorts and theme parks. The inaugural flight is scheduled for November, signaling a significant milestone for the island’s infrastructure and connectivity.

Recently, Phu Quoc was ranked third on Travel + Leisure magazine’s list of the 10 best islands in the Asia-Pacific region, following Bali and Koh Samui. This recognition further solidifies its status as a top-tier destination in the region.

Last year, Phu Quoc was voted the second most beautiful island in Asia, after Bali of Indonesia, by readers of Condé Nast Traveler. This continued acclaim underscores the island’s natural beauty, diverse attractions, and growing reputation as a must-visit location for travelers seeking an unforgettable experience.

As the final months of the year approach, Phu Quoc is poised for even greater success. With improved air connectivity, increased investment in tourism infrastructure, and a strong focus on enhancing visitor experiences, the island is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory in the global tourism market.
