Bangladesh’s Dominant T20I Sweep Over Afghanistan

Bangladesh delivered a commanding performance to complete a 3-0 sweep against Afghanistan in the T20I series, securing a six-wicket victory in the third match. The team successfully chased down a target of 144 runs with 12 balls to spare, showcasing their ability to handle pressure and maintain composure under challenging conditions.

Saif Hassan played a pivotal role in anchoring Bangladesh’s innings, scoring an unbeaten 64 off 38 balls. His composed batting helped the team navigate through a brief wobble before steadying the chase and setting the tone for the rest of the innings.

Afghanistan was put into bat after Bangladesh won the toss, but they struggled to find consistent momentum throughout their innings. Their total of 143 for 9 was built on contributions from several players, including Darwish Rasooli (32 off 29) and Sediqullah Atal (28 off 23), who provided some stability during the middle overs. A late surge from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who remained unbeaten on 23 off 18 balls, helped lift the total beyond 140.

However, the damage had already been done earlier in the innings. Mohammad Saifuddin was instrumental in stifling Afghanistan’s progress, taking three wickets for just 15 runs. His dismissal of Wafiullah Tarakhil and Darwish Rasooli disrupted the flow of the innings. Left-armers Nasum Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib also played crucial roles, each claiming two wickets for 24 runs, maintaining pressure on the Afghan batsmen.

Rashid Khan attempted to counterattack with a quick 12 off seven balls, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Afghanistan from falling from 98 for 7 to 132 for 9 before Mujeeb’s recovery strokes.

Bangladesh’s Strong Reply

Bangladesh’s reply began with a brisk and efficient approach, despite a maiden over from Mujeeb to start the innings. Parvez Hossain Emon’s early dismissal, caught by Rashid Khan off Azmatullah Omarzai, brought the score to 24 for 1. However, Saif Hassan, promoted to number three in this series, set the tone with his aggressive yet disciplined batting. He cleared the arc seven times, combining clean shot-making with restraint.

Tanzid Hasan partnered Saif in a valuable 55-run stand, taking Bangladesh to 79 for 1 at the drinks break. The partnership was crucial in building the foundation for a successful chase.

There was a moment of tension when Mujeeb Ur Rahman, using his drift and dip, trapped Jaker Ali lbw and then dismissed Shamim Hossain on the next delivery. This reduced Bangladesh’s score to 109 for 4 in the 14th over. Despite this, the Bangladeshi team showed resilience, especially as Rashid Khan bowled brilliantly, conceding only 13 runs in four overs.

With Afghanistan’s fast bowlers struggling, Bangladesh capitalized on the turbulence. Saif Hassan took control once again, striking a maiden against Rashid and then reaching his fifty off 32 balls. Nurul Hasan closed the game with a powerful six over cover off Ahmadzai, sealing a 144 for 4 victory in 18 overs.

Key Performances

The sweep of the series was a result of both strong batting and disciplined bowling. Saif Hassan was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, while Nasum Ahmed was honored as Player of the Series for his consistent control during the new ball and middle overs.
