Philanthropist Unveils Modern Sports Facilities to Empower Ondo Youth
A significant stride in grassroots sports development has been made in Ondo State, Nigeria, with the official handover of three state-of-the-art games courts to the state government. A significant highlight of the handover ceremony was the inauguration of the Chief Afolami Victor Awosika (CAVA) tournaments. The event featured a series of competitive games across the newly established sports, culminating in the emergence of winners in each category.
The inaugural tournaments provided an immediate platform for local athletes to showcase their skills and compete for honors.
Lawn Tennis: In a closely contested final, the Senior Staff Tennis Club, Akure, emerged victorious over the Ondo Tennis Club to claim the gold medal in the doubles category. In the singles category, Olakunle Gbologe of UNIMED triumphed over Olanrewaju Akinnagbe of Ondo Tennis Club, securing the top prize.
Basketball: The UNIMED team demonstrated superior performance, outplaying the Don Bosco Youths with a decisive scoreline of 73–55 to win the gold medal.
Volleyball: The Ondo City Spikers Club clinched the gold medal in the volleyball category, defeating the Akure Dynamite Spikers Club in two straight sets.
