Alreinamedia.com –Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianin, stated that diplomacy and negotiations will end the war in his country, which has been going on for almost a year due to Russian aggression.
Negotiations could ensue if Russian troops leave Ukraine, and liberate all of the territory they occupy.
This was conveyed by Ambassador Vasyl after the discussion event “Covering War in Ukraine: the View from Indonesian Journalists” held by the Cultural Center of the United States Embassy, in Jakarta, Thursday (23/2/2023).
“And when it comes to diplomacy, I think diplomacy is very good, very efficient. For example, let’s invite the world’s top diplomats to try to persuade Russia or maybe threaten Russia,” he said.
According to Ambassador Vasyl, diplomacy can work to try to persuade aggressive parties to stop attacking.
Ambassador Vasyl emphasized that Ukraine is open to peace talks, but that is not the case with Russia.
He called the Minsk Accords, an attempt to secure a ceasefire between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, “made up” by Russia.
The Minsk I Agreement, signed in 2014 and renewed by the Minsk II Agreement in 2015, also sets out electoral procedures for the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, as well as plans for integrating the two regions into Ukraine.
“The agreement was never fulfilled and implemented. It’s artificial. So the result of eight years of negotiations is the Russian Federation’s full-scale aggression on Ukraine,” said Vasyl.
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Minsk Agreement would no longer apply when Russia recognized Luhansk and Donetsk, two breakaway regions of Ukraine, as independent states.
President Putin insisted that the recognition of the independence of Luhansk and Donetsk from Ukraine was prompted by Kiev’s reluctance to implement the agreement. (Arizki)
