Gary Neville’s Assessment of Benjamin Sesko

Gary Neville has expressed his uncertainty regarding the performance of Manchester United’s summer signing, Benjamin Sesko. He described the situation as “the jury is out” on the 22-year-old forward, who he feels “looks awkward” and “well off it.” Sesko’s transition to Old Trafford has been challenging since his £74m move from RB Leipzig last summer.

Sesko has only managed to score two goals in 11 appearances for the club and struggled to make an impact during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest. Club legend Neville was particularly disappointed with Sesko’s performance against Forest and admitted that he is still waiting to see more from United’s most expensive summer signing.

The Struggles of a High-Profile Signing

The Slovenian international was brought in by manager Ruben Amorim after missing out on Viktor Gyokeres, who completed a £64m move to Arsenal. Despite the high expectations, Sesko has not yet fulfilled the potential that came with his hefty price tag.

Neville commented on Sesko’s recent display, stating: “I’m no further forward with him. The jury is out. He’s well off it compared to the other summer signings that Man United made up front in [Matheus] Cunha and [Bryan] Mbeumo. He looks awkward, he had a couple of really good opportunities in the first half when balls got played over the top and his touch wasn’t quite right. For 80 million pound, you can say he’s young, has a lot of potential and is only just settling in, but you still want to see a bit more.”

Manchester United’s Performance Against Nottingham Forest

Manchester United were aiming for a fourth successive win on Saturday and started strongly with Casemiro scoring the opening goal before halftime. However, Nottingham Forest, currently in the relegation zone, staged a remarkable comeback to take a 2-1 lead through goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona shortly after the break.

The Red Devils were just ten minutes away from a significant victory when Amad Diallo scored a brilliant equalizer to secure a point for the visitors. The result leaves Manchester United in seventh place in the Premier League, while Forest remain in 17th position, now four points away from safety.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s Comments

After the match, Amorim acknowledged the team’s struggles, stating: “If I think about the game, we lost control for five minutes. I feel in the recent past if we had had this situation, going from 1-0 up to 2-1 down, we would’ve struggled so much more than we did today. My feeling is that we played well but we dropped a little bit of energy. When we are full of energy, we are the better team. My players are giving everything but we have the potential to do better and sometimes we have these moments. In the end, we lost two points and we need to get three points in the next game.”
