Arewa Consultative Forum Denounces Maiduguri Mosque Bombing, Calls for Renewed Fight Against Terrorism

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent bomb attack targeting a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as both tragic and profoundly disturbing. The organisation expressed deep sorrow upon receiving news of the attack, mourning the lives lost and offering prayers for the eternal peace of the deceased.

In a statement released on Thursday, the ACF conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the worshippers who sustained injuries, wishing them a swift and complete recovery. The Forum also extended its deepest condolences to the families of those who perished and all those impacted by the devastating event.

The ACF extended its commiserations to the government and the people of Borno State, as well as the nation as a whole. The Forum highlighted that this attack serves as a stark and painful reminder of the persistent and pervasive threat posed by terrorism and general insecurity across Nigeria.

According to the ACF, the bombing underscores a grim reality: the scourge of terror has not yet been subdued nor effectively brought under control, despite the continuous efforts and sacrifices made by the nation’s security agencies.

The Forum recalled its recent Christmas message, reiterating its firm stance that the battle against insecurity requires a decisive and forceful approach, targeting the “merchants of terror” with the utmost urgency and vigour that the current situation demands.

The ACF articulated its profound disbelief and outright rejection of the notion that criminal elements should be permitted to destabilize the nation. The Forum emphatically stated that such acts of violence and disruption cannot and must not be tolerated under any circumstances.

In light of these events, the ACF has issued a crucial call for heightened vigilance from all citizens, at all times. This heightened awareness is particularly critical in communal spaces such as places of worship, bustling markets, and other social gatherings. The Forum issued a stern warning, asserting that anti-social and criminal elements, whether originating from foreign shores or operating domestically, must not be allowed to imperil the fabric of normal life or achieve any semblance of victory over peace and stability in Nigeria.

The Forum’s statement emphasizes the ongoing nature of the threat and the need for a sustained and intensified response from both security forces and the general populace. The ACF believes that a collective and unwavering commitment is necessary to counter the insidious influence of terrorism and restore a sense of security and normalcy throughout the country. The organization implores all Nigerians to remain vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to safeguard communities and uphold peace. The ACF’s condemnation serves as a stark reminder of the challenges Nigeria faces and the urgent need for a unified and resolute approach to combatting the persistent threat of extremism and violence.
