Liam Knight’s Future Plans: A Possible NRL Return

Liam Knight, the Hull FC player and fiancé of Channel Nine presenter Dannika Mason, is considering a major career move that could see him return to the National Rugby League (NRL) in the near future. The 6ft 4in prop forward has been open about his desire to be closer to his girlfriend, who is based in Australia, and this sentiment has sparked speculation about his next steps.

Knight proposed to Mason during a romantic trip to Italy in October, and the couple has since shared their excitement with fans through social media. Mason was seen flaunting a dazzling diamond engagement ring in a selfie, which quickly went viral. Their relationship began at the start of 2024, following the end of Mason’s previous engagement to Todd Liubinskas.

Before joining Hull FC, Knight had left the Canterbury Bulldogs and signed a seven-month deal with the Super League side. However, he later extended his contract for an additional 12 months, showing his commitment to the club. Despite this, Knight has hinted at his long-term goal of returning to the NRL.

In a recent interview on the Elevate with Mets podcast, Knight expressed his passion for playing in Australia. He praised the quality of football in England and the support from the fans but emphasized that his ultimate aim is to return to the NRL. “I want to come back to the NRL,” he said. “I love it over there. I love playing footy. The crowds are hectic, the fans are cool, it is good quality football.”

Knight also mentioned the challenges of being away from home, especially his girlfriend. “I’m not here to muck around. I want to make a difference and be a leader, win some games and then come back to the NRL.” His dedication to the sport and his personal life is evident, as he balances his career with his relationship.

Throughout his career, Knight has played for several Australian clubs, including Manly, Canberra, South Sydney, and Canterbury. His longest stint was with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, where he made 66 appearances. Since joining Hull FC, he has become a fan favorite among English supporters.

Mason has spoken about their long-distance relationship, highlighting how they celebrate each other’s achievements despite the distance. “We’re lucky. We can celebrate each other’s wins from afar,” she said. She also joked about the benefits of not having to hear a 3.45am alarm for the Today Show.

Knight’s journey with Hull FC has been marked by both challenges and successes. After making 19 appearances for the club last season, he has grown into a key player and a beloved figure among fans. His time in England has allowed him to gain valuable experience, which he hopes will help him in his future career moves.

As the 2026 season approaches, many are wondering if Knight will fulfill his dream of returning to the NRL. His current contract with Hull FC is set to expire, and while he has pledged to see out the remainder of his deal, the possibility of a future move remains a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike.

Whether or not he makes the switch, Knight’s story is one of resilience, ambition, and love. His journey from Australia to England and back again highlights the unique path that professional athletes often take, balancing personal and professional goals along the way.
