Rosie O’Donnell: A Look Inside Her Expansive Family Life
Rosie O’Donnell, the beloved comedian and television personality, has always placed immense value on her family. Now, at 64, her brood has grown even larger with the recent announcement of her fifth grandchild. Having relocated to Dublin in 2025, a move she’s cited as an escape from the political climate, Rosie continues to navigate the joys and complexities of raising a large, blended family.
Rosie is a mother to five children, a mix of biological and adopted. Her first four children, Parker, Chelsea, Blake, and Vivienne, were welcomed with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter. Her youngest, Clay, was adopted with her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds.
The O’Donnell Children and Grandchildren: A Detailed Look
Let’s delve into the lives of Rosie’s children and the growing family tree:
Parker Jaren O’Donnell
Rosie O’Donnell became a mother for the first time on May 25, 1995, when she welcomed Parker Jaren O’Donnell through adoption. Initially a single parent, her then-partner Kelli Carpenter later became Parker’s legal parent. Parker’s journey has included time at the Valley Forge Military Academy and a stint in the Marines. He furthered his education by graduating from the Los Angeles Film School in January 2025. Now 30 years old, Parker has been in a committed relationship with his partner, Ajia, for two years. They share a beloved dog named Boots, but as of now, they do not have children.
Chelsea Belle O’Donnell

Born on September 20, 1997, Chelsea Belle O’Donnell was adopted by Rosie and Kelli. The mother-daughter relationship has experienced its share of challenges. In August 2015, Rosie publicly announced Chelsea had gone missing. She was found a week later and subsequently moved to Wisconsin to live with her birth mother, a decision Rosie’s publicist explained was Chelsea’s choice upon turning 18.
A significant reconnection occurred in 2018, sparked by Chelsea’s pregnancy. She welcomed her first child, a daughter named Skylar Rose, in December 2019.

Chelsea is now a mother of four. Her family has grown with the arrival of her daughter Riley in January 2021, followed by Avery Lynn in February 2022, and a son, Atlas, in October 2023. The 28-year-old has faced legal difficulties, with three arrests between September and November 2024. The initial arrest involved multiple felony charges, including child neglect and possession of methamphetamine. Following her third arrest, Chelsea pleaded guilty in February 2025 to charges of resisting or obstructing an officer, felony bail jumping, and possession of methamphetamine.

In October of the same year, she received a prison sentence. Rosie expressed her empathy at the time, stating, “I have compassion for those struggling with addiction – Chelsea was born into addiction and it has been a painful journey for her and her four young children. We continue to love and support her through these horrible times. Prayers welcomed.”
Blake Christopher O’Donnell

Blake Christopher O’Donnell joined the family on December 5, 1999, as the third child adopted by Rosie and Kelli. Blake generally maintains a private life. However, in December 2022, Rosie shared the happy news of his engagement to his girlfriend, Teresa Garofalow Westervelt, which took place during a Broadway performance of Phantom of the Opera. The couple exchanged vows on August 16, 2024, with Blake’s sister Vivienne serving as his “best man.”

The family celebrated another joyous occasion on March 28, 2026, when Rosie announced the birth of Blake and Teresa’s first child. “Anthony Joel O’Donnell has arrived! And my heart burst open – congratulations to mama Teresa and Blake Christopher. I love u so,” Rosie shared in a heartfelt post.
Vivienne Rose O’Donnell

Vivienne Rose O’Donnell is the youngest child Rosie shares with ex-wife Kelli. Born on November 29, 2002, Vivienne graduated from high school in 2021 and is currently pursuing her studies at the University of Delaware. Vivienne has a fondness for social media and once shared a childhood memory of enjoying visits from a family friend known only as ‘Mo.’ Years later, she discovered that ‘Mo’ was none other than the iconic pop superstar, Madonna.
Clay O’Donnell

Clay O’Donnell was adopted by Rosie and her second wife, Michelle, less than a year after their marriage. Born on January 5, 2012, Clay’s life has been marked by significant challenges. In 2015, Rosie filed for divorce, citing an “irretrievably broken relationship.” Michelle sought sole custody of Clay, but tragically passed away by suicide in 2017. Rosie released a statement expressing her sorrow: “I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle’s family, her wife, and their child.”
Clay has been diagnosed with autism, a diagnosis that Rosie has stated has profoundly impacted her perspective, allowing her to “see the world from a completely different place.” Rosie brought her youngest child with her when she relocated to Ireland in January 2025.
