James Pande Honoured as Man of the Year for Community Empowerment
James Pande, the dynamic president of the Big Deal Economic Empowerment Movement, has been bestowed with the prestigious Man of the Year award in Community Empowerment at the inaugural Zimbabwe Men of the Year Awards. This significant recognition underscores his burgeoning reputation as a pivotal figure dedicated to fostering grassroots economic transformation across the nation.
Pande was presented with an official certificate acknowledging him as the foremost Man of the Year in Community Empowerment. Organizers highlighted that this accolade is a direct reflection of his persistent and impactful endeavours to uplift young people and communities through tangible empowerment initiatives.
With a background that includes serving as the Zimbabwe Youth Council’s empowerment director for Harare province and an ongoing aspiration to represent Masvingo Urban as a Member of Parliament, Pande has consistently championed youth-focused development programmes. His efforts have particularly concentrated on Masvingo and have extended to various other regions within Zimbabwe.
Upon receiving the award, Pande expressed his profound gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment. “This award is a clear testimony of the work we are doing to empower communities,” he stated. “I will not get tired. My focus is to emancipate young men and women so that they can start their own projects and become economically independent.”
His strategic approach involves forging robust partnerships with both local and international investors. These collaborations have been instrumental in facilitating access to essential mining equipment for artisanal miners operating in key areas such as Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mazowe, Kadoma, and Kwekwe.
Beyond the mining sector, Pande is actively involved in successful agricultural ventures. These projects, primarily located in Marondera and Masvingo, encompass a diverse range of produce including tobacco, maize, and sesame, in addition to robust livestock farming operations.
Pande’s vision for empowerment extends beyond the geographical confines of Zimbabwe. He is actively cultivating international relationships to bring in investors from a variety of countries, with a particular focus on Dubai, America, Australia, South Africa, and Botswana. He noted that he already has established a presence in South Africa and Botswana, signalling his ambition for regional and international impact.
He also took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the organizers of the Men of the Year Awards, commending them for establishing a platform that celebrates and acknowledges positive leadership. “I want to thank the organisers for coming up with such an innovative idea that celebrates men who are making a real difference in society,” Pande remarked.
The awards ceremony, held in the capital city of Harare, brought together a distinguished assembly of men from a wide array of professional and societal sectors.
The Guest of Honour, Skills Audit and Development Minister Paul Mavima, addressed the award recipients. He issued a compelling challenge, urging them to maintain their dedication and continue their hard work in contributing to national development.
The Zimbabwe Men of the Year Awards were established with the clear objective of honouring exceptional men who are making a significant and positive impact across various facets of life. Pande’s recognition in the Community Empowerment category serves as a powerful testament to the increasing importance and recognition of community-driven economic empowerment initiatives in shaping a prosperous future for Zimbabwe.
