Bauchi Group Demands Faction Leaders Ouster

Sebarkan artikel ini

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State is embroiled in a contentious dispute, with a political advocacy group, the G6 Vanguard, demanding the expulsion of Haruna Jungudo, a prominent figure recently appointed as a factional caretaker chairman. The G6 Vanguard accuses Jungudo of persistent indiscipline, engaging in anti-party activities, and deliberately sabotaging the party’s interests.

The group’s Publicity Secretary, Isyaku Adamu, issued a statement outlining their grievances, citing Jungudo’s alleged disregard for party directives and his association with opposition figures. These actions, according to the G6 Vanguard, have undermined the PDP’s unity and stability at both the state and local government levels.

“The PDP remains a party built on discipline, loyalty, and respect for constituted leadership,” the statement declared. “No individual, regardless of position or influence, should be allowed to weaken the structures we have collectively worked hard to build.”

The G6 Vanguard alleges that Jungudo has a history of working against PDP candidates during elections, sponsoring media campaigns to disparage party leadership, and violating the party’s constitution and internal code of conduct. They argue that retaining a member whose conduct is detrimental to the party’s growth threatens its internal cohesion and future electoral prospects.

The group has called upon the State Working Committee and the National Working Committee to take immediate disciplinary action against Jungudo, citing Sections 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution as the basis for their demand.

The G6 Vanguard’s statement emphasized the seriousness of the situation: “Our demand is simple: the party must act decisively. Jungudo’s behaviour is not only embarrassing but also dangerous to the unity of the PDP.” They urged the party’s disciplinary bodies to enforce the rules impartially.

Adamu reaffirmed the G6 Vanguard’s loyalty to the PDP and its commitment to safeguarding the party’s integrity. He also appealed to party members to remain calm while the appropriate authorities address the issue.

Jungudo’s Appointment and the Factional Divide

The call for Jungudo’s expulsion comes in the wake of his recent appointment as a factional caretaker chairman by a camp loyal to Nyesom Wike. Umar Batura, the National Organising Secretary of this faction, announced on December 5, 2025, that the NWC had approved the appointment of Jungudo and 12 others to the Bauchi State Caretaker Committee.

The committee’s mandate, according to the statement, is to manage the party’s affairs in the state for a period not exceeding 30 days, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party’s constitution. This appointment has further deepened the divisions within the Bauchi State PDP, leading to the current crisis.

Jungudo’s Defense and Counter-Arguments

In response to the calls for his expulsion, Haruna Jungudo’s spokesperson, Umar Ahmad, dismissed the allegations and questioned the legitimacy of those making the demand. He argued that the ward executives pushing for Jungudo’s expulsion lack the authority to do so.

Ahmad asserted that while these individuals are exercising their constitutional rights, their actions hold no legal weight within the PDP’s structure. He further claimed that the Jama’are ‘A’ Ward, where Jungudo belongs, does not have a valid executive committee, alleging that the ward chairman was ineligible at the time of his election.

“Where will they derive the legitimacy and power to take such decisions?” Ahmad questioned. “The ward chairman where my principal belongs was ineligible when he was elected. His election was null and void. My principal has even written twice to the State Working Committee to draw their attention to that illegality.”

Ahmad also pointed out that the Bauchi State Working Committee itself had been dissolved following a meeting of the National Working Committee in Abuja, raising doubts about which committee the petitioners intended to report to.

“Which State Working Committee do they want to take their complaint to, when the legally constituted one was inaugurated by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Mr Bature?” he asked.

Ahmad maintained that Haruna Jungudo remains a bonafide member and chairman of the party in the state, and that no action taken by any group of individuals claiming to be PDP members can undermine his position.

“They are free to do whatever they want within their constitutional rights,” Ahmad stated. “But no action taken by such groups will stand or be regarded as valid under the law.”

Key Players and Their Positions

To summarize, the key players in this unfolding drama and their respective positions are:

  • Haruna Jungudo: The factional caretaker chairman whose expulsion is being demanded. He maintains his legitimacy as a party member and leader.
  • G6 Vanguard: A political advocacy group within the PDP calling for Jungudo’s expulsion, citing anti-party activities and indiscipline.
  • Isyaku Adamu: The Publicity Secretary of the G6 Vanguard, who issued the statement outlining their grievances.
  • Umar Ahmad: Jungudo’s spokesperson, who defends his principal and questions the legitimacy of the calls for his expulsion.
  • Nyesom Wike’s Faction: The group within the PDP that appointed Jungudo as the caretaker chairman.
  • Umar Batura: The National Organising Secretary of Wike’s faction, who announced Jungudo’s appointment.

The situation remains fluid, and the outcome of the G6 Vanguard’s demand for Jungudo’s expulsion will likely have significant implications for the future of the PDP in Bauchi State. The National Working Committee’s response will be crucial in determining the direction of the party and resolving the internal conflict.
